bjorn shen | chef-owner
bjorn is chef-owner of artichoke and author of the artichoke cookbook. notorious for his rebellious personality and outlandish style of cooking, bjorn has earned significant industry recognition over the years. outside of overseeing his brands, artichoke, bird bird and neh neh pop. bjorn writes a monthly column titled “bjorn says” for time out magazine, lectures at the culinary institute of america, and consults on new restaurant openings. bjorn’s first taste of industry was while washing dishes at a cafe in tanglin mall back in 2002. thereafter, bjorn enrolled in culinary school, bombed out of culinary school, earned a bachelors in hospitality and a masters in marketing. one day, he hopes to undertake a phd in fried chicken.

jonathan lee | head chef
at 22, jon ditched his business degree midway to pursue his interest in cooking. finding affirmation in his job as a line cook on the opening team of artichoke in 2010, jon took the plunge and enrolled himself in the singapore-based culinary institute of america. since then, he has trained in prestigious kitchens like those of osteria mozza in marina bay sands and restaurant studio in copenhagen.
jon returned to artichoke in 2013 and has worked his way up the ladder since. for a young chap, jon is refreshingly old school, preferring to build big flavours with his wood fired hearth and brick oven rather than dabble in modern techniques and fancy presentations that other young chefs these days tend to fuss over. with the support and guidance of bjorn, jon aims to take the already-buzzing artichoke to even greater heights.
Artichoke is a loud & funky Middle Eastern restaurant. No doner kebabs and and belly dancers here.
Yes, we recommend you reserving at least 1 week ahead. Call +65 63366949 from 3-10pm Tue to Sat. If you can’t get through, it means we are busy with someone else; please call again later. Kindly refrain from sending us emails and Facebook messages asking for reservations. If you can’t nab a reservation, please feel free to rock up and join the queue anyway.
Our private dining room seats up to 20. Parties larger than 20 must buy-out the restaurant for exclusive use. Both these arrangements require a minimum spend; please call to enquire. We also do events like weddings, product launches and company functions. Please email email@example.com for all event enquiries.
We do not have a kids menu, our high chairs are very limited, and our music is loud and sometimes explicit. If you still want to bring your kids despite this, they are most welcome to be here.
Please inform us of your restrictions before you order. We may or may not be able to modify our dishes to accommodate, but we can definitely advise you on what’s suitable and what’s not.
